Zimmer Knee Lawsuits
At a recent American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons conference, some prominent knee surgeons presented data that suggested that there is an "unacceptably high" rate of failure for certain Zimmer knee replacement systems. According to the data presented, many patients experienced loosening with the Zimmer knee implant and required revision surgery within just a few years. As a result of this data, some knee surgeons are calling for a Zimmer CR-Flex porous knee recall.

Zimmer Knee Problems
Some Zimmer NexGen knees have a “high-flex” femoral component that is meant to give the patient an increased range of motion compare to other knee replacement devices. Because of what some allege to be a defective design in the high-flex model knees, many high-flex and MIS tibial plate patients may have been exposed to an elevated risk of issues due to their Zimmer knee replacements. Zimmer knee problems can be severe and debilitating, and may include:
- Knee pain
- Inability to walk or stand
- Loosening of knee replacement parts
- Knee replacement failure
- Knee implant revision surgery
Zimmer NexGen Knee Revision Surgery
According to the data presented at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons conference, orthopedic surgeons at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago worked with at least 9 patients who needed knee revision surgery after implantation with a Zimmer NexGen CR-Flex cementless knee, and another 39 patients who experienced significant loosening of their high flex knee implants. A report in the Wall Street Journal states that the authors of this study have already presented their findings and concerns to Zimmer, and that the surgeons have called for a Zimmer knee recall for this particular high flex device.
Zimmer NexGen MIS Tibial Plate Recall
In September 2010, Zimmer issued a recall for a knee replacement component, the NexGen Tibial Plate. While only this specific part of the Zimmer knee implant has been recalled, reports show that the Zimmer knee has a higher-than-expected failure rate and many prominent surgeons believe that there should be a Zimmer NexGen CR-Flex cementless knee recall. Additionally, Senator Charles Grassley publicly issued Zimmer a letter concerning problems with certain models of Zimmer NexGen knee replacement systems.
Contact a Zimmer Knee Lawyer Today
Since 2003, more than 150,000 Zimmer NexGen knees have been implanted. Lawsuits allege the manufacturer, Zimmer Holdings, Inc., was aware of the potential risk of failure, but failed to adequately alert consumers to the dangers or to take appropriate steps to reduce the risk of injury. Through a Zimmer knee lawsuit, victims of failed Zimmer knee replacements may be entitled to significant compensation. If you believe you have a potential Zimmer knee recall lawsuit, contact a product liability lawyer today to have your claim reviewed at no cost to you.
